Year 6
Welcome to Year 6. Mrs Byford & Miss Pope will continue as your class teachers. Working alongside are Mrs Angier and Ms Attmere to support the children throughout the year. Together, we'll help guide the children through their final year of primary school, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
English
This term in Year 6 we will be reading The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and our reading and writing tasks will be based around this novel. The children will be writing an additional chapter in the form of a narrative and writing a persuasive text about the rainforest. This term we will be encouraging the children to become more independent in their writing, drawing upon previous knowledge.
Maths
During this first half term, they will be finishing their fractions and moving onto ratio and algebra. Arithmetic will be ongoing to consolidate their knowledge in preparation for their SATs; any times table practice at home would be very beneficial.
Science
We will be Classifying Living Things and our History focus will be comparing the Ancient Maya to other ancient and more recent civilisations. Our topics of study for RE are from Hinduism and Christianity this term. We will be designing and making our own mechanical systems, automata toys in D & T, looking at variables in games in Computing and learning about Film music and scores in Music. In our PE lessons we will be developing our netball and gymnastic skills and practising our spoken language in French. Finally, our PSHE will focus on moving on and looking forwards as we transition to secondary school.
SATs practice will be intertwined within the curriculum and a further set of full practice papers will be undertaken prior to the actual tests in early May. We are offering additional support to some students after school on a Monday and Tuesday, which are invite only, as well as small intervention groups for writing and spelling during the school day.
