Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!
As we step into the Spring term, we are excited to be working with you and your child to make their final year at primary school fun, productive and memorable.
The Year 6 team are:
  • Class Teachers: Mrs. Byford & Mrs Stewart
  • PPA cover: Ms Pope (Wednesday afternoon)
Below, you’ll find a sample copy of our weekly timetable. While we aim to stick to it, occasional changes may happen to accommodate special activities or events.
English: In year 6 the children have now become independent readers but we would still encourage you to listen to them at home. Our library lesson is on a Monday morning, where the children get the opportunity to change their books if they would like to.
Writing skills this term will focus on becoming independent writers re-visiting writing skills that we have covered earlier in the year, which will include a narrative, a balanced argument and some formal letters.  Our texts this term are Letters from the lighthouse by Emma Carroll and Rose Blanche by Ian McEwan.  Although there is not a formal SATs paper for writing, all of their writing will be moderated in June.
Maths: We will be looking at the topics of: fractions, decimals and percentages; algebra, ratio, statistics; shape and measures. Please continue to log in to TT rock stars to practice speed and fluency.
RE: Hinduism looking at Brahman and Attman and how this influences their daily life.
History: We will be learning about the World War 2 and the local area. How Bures was affected during the war.
Science: We will be exploring the topics of classification of living things.
DT: We are learning about mechanical systems.
PE: We will have the PE coach every Thursday and he will be delivering gymnastics this term.  In their other lesson they will be doing basketball and hockey.  PE will be on a Tuesday and Thursday and children must remember their PE kit or they will be asked to borrow kit from the office.
Music: World War 2 songs
Computer: Website designing and on line communication.
Educational visits: Gainsborough House.
As always, we’re here to support you. Feel free to catch us at the classroom door before or after school or message on Seesaw for any quick queries. For more in-depth discussions, we’re happy to arrange a meeting at your convenience.
Let’s work together to help your child achieve their goals and 'dream big' this term!
